For over 40 years, Dr. Carlos Sluzki has been dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the complexities of life and find pathways to healing and transformation. As a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and family therapist, he has extensive training and experience in a wide range of therapeutic approaches, including psychiatry, psychoanalysis, systemic couples and family therapy, and narrative-oriented and cross-cultural approaches.
About Dr. Sluzki
Dr. Sluzki received his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine and underwent psychoanalytic training at the Argentine Psychoanalytic Association. He was a core member of the team that developed the pioneering Department of Psychiatry and Psychiatric Residency Program at the Gregorio Araoz Alfaro Hospital in Lanus, Argentina. He also trained in couples and family therapy at the Mental Research Institute in Palo Alto, California, during the early days of that discipline.
Dr. Sluzki has held various academic positions, including Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is currently Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at George Washington University School of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University.
Psychiatry
Dr. Sluzki provides a range of psychiatric services, including a comprehensive diagnosis and assessment, empathetic and accessible psychotherapy, and judicious integration of medications. With over 40 years of clinical experience in public and private settings, Dr. Sluzki has chaired Departments of Psychiatry in general hospitals for 22 years.
Psychotherapy
Dr. Sluzki provides individual therapy, utilizing a non-confrontational approach towards conflict transformation and trauma healing. He facilitates an open re-examination and sometimes reconfiguration of personal and interpersonal concerns, conflicts, and dilemmas.
Couples & Families
In his practice of family and couple therapy, Dr. Sluzki offers a gentle and balanced approach to a creative resolution of painful dynamics that can anchor symptoms and dysfunctions in relationships. He has helped countless couples locked in conflict and families struggling with seemingly intractable symptoms or inter-generational conflicts.
Consulting & Supervision
As a consultant and supervisor for professionals, Dr. Sluzki facilitates a respectful, comfortable, and collegial experience in person or online. He provides guidance on complex clinical cases, helps professionals reassess problematic cases, and assists in expanding skills.

Dr. Sluzki has published extensively and has delivered countless keynote and panel presentations worldwide. His areas of expertise include couples and family therapy, social networks, violence and victimization, refugees and human rights.
About His Practice
Currently, Dr. Sluzki sees patients in California, Massachusetts, D.C., and worldwide via Zoom/Skype/etc., in English, Spanish, or Italian. His practice is predominantly virtual, with occasional exceptions.
