Empowering Clinicians, Enhancing Lives
Since 1982, I, Douglas K. Smith, Ph. D., have been a licensed clinical psychologist, dedicated to providing high-quality mental health services to individuals, couples, and families. With over 40 years of experience, I have had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, helping them navigate life's challenges and achieving their goals.
Our Services
At Beachside Psychology, we understand that every individual is unique, and we acknowledge the importance of tailored support. Our services are designed to cater to a wide range of concerns, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Sleep and appetite challenges
- Aging
- Trauma
- Relationship issues
- Family conflicts
- Adjustment to retirement
- Grief and loss
- Couples therapy
- Individual therapy
As a licensed clinician, I have extensive training in various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and solution-focused therapy. My approach is patient-centered, empathetic, and non-judgmental, allowing individuals to feel safe and comfortable sharing their concerns.
Therapy Sessions
We offer both in-person and online therapy sessions. Online sessions are conducted using video conferencing platforms like Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Meet. These sessions are just as effective and convenient, allowing individuals to access therapy services from the comfort of their own space.
Insurance and Fees
My fee is $200 per session. As a Medicare provider, most clients with Medicare and a secondary policy may have the entire fee covered. Additionally, many insurance plans will cover a portion or all of my fee. I work directly with insurance providers to maximize benefits and ensure that clients receive the most out of their coverage.
First Session-What to Expect
During the first session, we will discuss your concerns, gather information about you, and discuss payment arrangements. This session is an opportunity for us to establish a comfortable and trusting relationship. Towards the end of our initial meeting, we will schedule a plan for your therapy sessions.
About Me
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley and majored in psychology. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa and went on to earn my Ph. D. in clinical psychology from Fuller Graduate School of Psychology. I have had extensive training in various settings, including LA County/USC Medical Center, the VA Hospital in Long Beach, and the Devereux Foundation in Santa Barbara. I am a member of the American Psychological Association and the California Psychological Association.
Conclusion
At Beachside Psychology, I am committed to providing personalized care and support to individuals, couples, and families. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. I look forward to working with you.
