Helping individuals and families heal and grow
As a licensed clinical psychologist with over thirty years of experience, I am committed to providing high-quality therapy services to individuals, adolescents, and families. With a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland and licensure since 1990, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, from children to adults, addressing a wide range of concerns.
Professional Background
My professional journey began with ten years of experience working with child, adolescent, and adult clients at the Woodburn Center for Community Mental Health in Annandale, Virginia. During this tenure, I conducted individual therapy, psychological evaluations, parenting assessments, and parenting classes. I also provided clinical supervision to psychology interns and residents.
Our Services
We offer a range of therapeutic services, including individual psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and psychoeducational assessments. Our therapeutic approach is interactive and supportive, aiming to increase self-awareness and promote change. We recognize that past experiences, particularly within the family, significantly influence an individual's current strengths and concerns.
Adult Psychotherapy
Adult therapy typically begins with an initial meeting to gather background information and explore the client's reasons for seeking therapy. Together, we discuss what changes the client hopes to make and how therapy can help accomplish these goals. We work collaboratively to understand current concerns and develop strategies to address them.
Adolescent Psychotherapy
Adolescent therapy focuses on helping teens understand themselves to facilitate healthy development and decision-making as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. This includes improving mood, self-esteem, relationships, and judgment. Our assessment process involves individual sessions with the adolescent and sometimes a joint meeting with parents.
Child Psychotherapy
We work with children who are kindergarten-age or older, using a play-based therapeutic approach. Our initial assessment involves individual meetings with the child, often in a therapeutic playroom, to understand their developmental strengths and areas of concern. We provide feedback to parents about our initial clinical impressions and suggestions for treatment, and ongoing sessions involve a combination of talk therapy and therapeutic play.
What to Expect
Therapy sessions are usually conducted once a week, although frequency may vary depending on individual needs and goals. Some clients may require multiple sessions to achieve their desired outcomes, while others may prefer a shorter duration. We prioritize confidentiality and ensure that all sessions are private, with some exceptions.
We understand that seeking therapy can be a challenging and personal experience. Our door is open to individuals, adolescents, and families seeking help for a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, stress related to work, school, or family, and more.
Our Philosophy
Our therapeutic philosophy recognizes that past experiences, particularly within the family, significantly influence an individual's current strengths and concerns. We view therapy as a collaborative process, where we work together to address challenges and promote positive change.
