Empowering Individuals to Embrace Their Strengths and Thrive
At Elizabeth Asta, Ph. D., Licensed Psychologist, we believe that people seek therapy for many reasons, but often because they are looking for a change in their life or need to process some difficult experiences. Our goal is to work with you to better understand yourself and your experiences through creating a trusting and connected relationship. We understand that taking the first step to start therapy can be scary, which is why we take the time to talk through your fears and questions to help you identify what you need from therapy to help you feel safe and able to benefit from our work together.
About Our Approach
As a licensed psychologist, I have over 15 years of experience working with a wide variety of concerns, including eating and food concerns, gender identity exploration, anxiety, depression, trauma, college mental health, grief, relationship concerns, cultural/identity exploration, and postpartum/new parenting concerns. My approach to therapy is collaborative, warm, and active. I believe that my clients are the experts on their lives and experiences, and my goal is to take their personal expertise, combine it with my clinical expertise, and help them move in a direction that feels meaningful and satisfying to them.
I use a range of approaches, including dialectical behavior therapy, interpersonal process therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, feminist therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I explore relationships, emotions, and thoughts, and how they interact. I also explore what strategies or coping tools may best serve clients with whatever challenges they are facing.
Speciality Areas
We specialize in two areas: eating concerns and gender identity support.
Eating Concerns
Do you find yourself spending more time than you would like thinking about what to eat, your size, or how much you exercise? Do you find yourself missing out on spending time with loved ones or enjoying activities because you are too preoccupied with food or your weight? One of our areas of specialization is working with clients with food and body image concerns. Our goal is to help clients find peace with their bodies, learn how to have a healthy relationship with food, and start to explore how to enjoy the people and things that matter most to them. We work to support clients in this process and help them learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle that comes with acceptance and flexibility.
Gender Identity Exploration
Exploring, identifying, and living out one's definition of gender can be challenging in a society in which a gender binary is reinforced. Our goal is to help transgender and gender diverse individuals find a safe space to explore their gender identity and how to express that gender in a way that feels most congruent for them. Individual therapy can be a helpful place to explore this part of your identity and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the world.
