Transforming Lives, One Relationship at a Time
As a clinical psychologist, I, A. Raja Hornstein, PsyD, am dedicated to providing individual and couples therapy in Marin County, helping clients navigate the complexities of life's challenges. My approach is rooted in mindfulness, psychoanalytic principles, and a deep understanding of human behavior.
What I Do
In our sessions, I will encourage you to explore the unconscious patterns, emotions, and experiences that shape your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we will delve into the past to understand how early relationships and experiences have influenced your current life. This process of self-discovery can lead to a greater sense of wholeness, increased flexibility, and improved coping mechanisms. By exploring the unconscious mind and acknowledging the emotions and thoughts that drive your behavior, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and make meaningful changes in your life.
My Approach
My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic principles. I believe that the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make up our daily lives are often influenced by unconscious factors, including past experiences, relationships, and emotions. By exploring these unconscious patterns, we can uncover the underlying dynamics that drive your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Mindfulness and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
In our sessions, I may introduce mindfulness practices to help you develop greater awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment. This can lead to a greater sense of calm, clarity, and openness to the experiences and emotions that arise during our therapy sessions. By cultivating mindfulness, you can develop greater awareness and acceptance of yourself, which can lead to increased self-compassion and a greater sense of calm.
My Background
Before becoming a clinical psychologist, I had a varied career path. I studied mathematics at Harvard and Columbia and taught at different levels. I also worked as a photographer and volunteered at a hospice organization, where I learned valuable lessons about the preciousness of life, the inevitability of change, loss, and grief. This experience led me to pursue my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. My research focused on hospice volunteers and the impact of grief and multiple losses on their lives.
Training and Experience
Throughout my training, I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and issues, including depression, anxiety, relationships, grief, and trauma. I have also led groups using Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a mindfulness-based approach, and worked with widows and widowers. My experience has shown me the importance of compassion, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach in creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.
Meeting with Me
If you are struggling with the challenges of life, change, or loss, I invite you to explore my approach and learn more about my practice. Our sessions can be a safe and confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and desires. Together, we can work to uncover the unconscious patterns that drive your behavior and develop greater self-awareness and acceptance. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your journey towards healing and growth.
